Events Today in Darmstadt – Concert, Reading & More
Events in Darmstadt Today (Still Upcoming) – Concert, Comedy, Poetry & City Program in the Evening
Overview of the events in Darmstadt that are still taking place today, Wednesday, 20.05.2026, from the afternoon and evening: Reading, CityLab, Climate Walk, Writing Stage, U20 Poetry Slam, Concert, and Comedy.
Status: Wednesday, 20.05.2026 (Europe/Berlin). Note: Times/locations may change at short notice. Please check the information from the respective organizers before attending.
Literature & Family: Afternoon Reading
3:00 PM – Family Reading at the Kulturhaus (City Center)
For families and anyone looking for a quiet cultural stop in the afternoon, a family reading at the Kulturhaus in the city center is on the program. Thanks to the central location, the event can be easily combined with a visit to the city center.
Tip for families: If you are out with children, plan a little buffer (arrival, cloakroom, restrooms). Especially for readings, it’s pleasant to arrive a few minutes before the start.
City, Knowledge & Climate: CityLab and Walk
2:00–5:00 PM – Open Afternoon at CityLab (Luisenplatz)
At Luisenplatz, the municipal CityLab opens its doors in the afternoon. The focus is on projects and ideas around urban development, digitalization, and climate adaptation – low-threshold, for dropping in, asking questions, and thinking along.
- Open Doors & Insights: Which projects are currently running and how citizens can get information or get involved.
- Short Talk on Heat Protection: Compact overview of how a city can deal with hotter summers (e.g., shade, unsealing, cooling open spaces).
5:30–7:30 PM – Climate Walk Kranichstein (Start: Borsdorffstraße Stop)
If you prefer being outdoors, you can join a climate walk in Kranichstein in the early evening. On a walk through the district, concrete examples become visible of what climate protection and adaptation can look like in the neighborhood – for example, through greening, water in urban spaces, or changed mobility.
Practical: Comfortable shoes and a water bottle are worthwhile. In changeable weather, a light rain jacket is advisable.
Stage & Evening: Writing Stage, U20 Slam, Concert, Comedy
6:00–7:00 PM – “Write Yourself onto the Stage!” (City Center)
This open format puts your own texts in the spotlight: “Write Yourself onto the Stage!” invites you to present short texts to an audience. The character is deliberately accessible – also for people performing for the first time.
Orientation Note: Since different meeting points are sometimes communicated for city center formats, it’s worth checking with the organizer (website/social media) shortly before you go.
6:00 PM – Public Tandem Tour at the State Museum
At 6:00 PM, the public tandem tour “Layer by Layer – a Geological Look at the Beuys Block” starts at the State Museum. The format combines two perspectives – art and natural science – and makes backgrounds understandable without requiring prior knowledge.
6:30 PM – U20 Poetry Slam “Battle of Lights” (City Center)
From 6:30 PM, the U20 Poetry Slam “Battle of Lights” brings young voices to the stage. Poetry slams are especially exciting if you’re interested in texts that are close to everyday life and the present – pointed, political, humorous, or very personal.
Planning Tip: If you want to attend both “Write Yourself onto the Stage!” (6:00–7:00) and the slam (from 6:30), it’s best to check the respective locations and walking times in the city center.
7:00 PM – Concert in Arheilgen: “Paula Nova” (free admission)
In Arheilgen, a live concert starts at 7:00 PM: “Paula Nova” plays at the district community center, admission is free. Such district concerts are ideal if you want to experience music easily, without long ticket planning.
8:00 PM – Comedy Show in the City Center
If you want to end the day in a light and entertaining way, there’s a comedy show in the city center from 8:00 PM. Comedy is a good option if, after a culture-rich day, you still have energy for one last program item.
Practical Tips: Tickets, Arrival, Planning
Why Major Ticket Portals Don’t Cover Everything
Many of today’s formats are deliberately low-threshold: open afternoons, walks, readings, district concerts, or local stage formats. Such events are sometimes organized without classic ticket logic or are primarily communicated via local calendars.
How to Plan Stress-Free
- Bundle City Center: CityLab (Luisenplatz), reading, writing stage, slam, and comedy are thematically and logistically close together.
- Plan Public Transport: For Arheilgen (concert) and Kranichstein (climate walk), a short public transport route is usually more relaxed than searching for parking.
- Weather & Duration: For the climate walk (5:30–7:30), appropriate clothing and shoes are crucial to keep it comfortable.
- Final Check Before Departure: Especially for city center events, room changes or admission rules can be updated at short notice.
